At 7:30 on the crisp Monday night of October 23, music lovers gathered for a special concert in Valley Christian’s theatre. This concert featured jazz by nine talented musicians in the Conservatory program. This premier recital highlighted freshmen Megan Jasso and Rami Campbell on piano, Giancarlo Antonelli on alto saxophone, Alanna Bautista on guitar and vocals, Ben Adams on trombone, Ian Herbert and Katie Hubbert on tenor saxophone in addition to sophomores Chi Tran on alto saxophone and Katy Sullivan on vocals.
For this recital, students had the opportunity to play alongside professional musicians Jason Lewis on drums and Doug Pohorsky on bass along with senior Yuma Sung on piano. All the performers played beautifully, and the recital was an overall delight. Each soloist added their individual flavor and personality to their pieces and gave the audience a live work of art in their performances. A couple highlights of the night included a jazzy rendition of the Snow White classic “Some Day My Prince Will Come” performed marvelously by Megan Jasso and a beautiful piece titled “Getting Somewhere” performed and composed by Alanna Bautista.
All the performers did a wonderful job, and the recital provided the opportunity for family members, friends, and music lovers in general to enjoy the result of innumerable hours of practice.
