Many Valley Christian students do not know why they did not have school on October 19 and 20. While students enjoyed their four day weekend, VC teachers attended the ACSI convention. ACSI stands for Association of Christian Schools International. Teachers met and learned new techniques and new ideas about teaching. This year the convention was held in Sacramento, California. Teachers attended conferences and classes of their choice, while most attended classes in their field of expertise. “This conference offers excellent opportunities for teacher enrichment,” said radio teacher, Mr. Donny Fugate.
The ACSI believes that Christian schools exist to support parents in fulfilling their biblical responsibility to educate children. It is their intent not to define each school’s philosophy but to provide a starting point, a framework consisting of five essential elements: truth, intellectual development, Christian educators, potential in Christ, and operation integrity. ACSI builds and implements a philosophy for Christian schools, such as Valley Christian. ACSI also enables and equips Christian educators and schools worldwide to effectively educate children and young people with the mind of Christ and seeks to equip schools for greater effectiveness, year after year. “This was eventful and exciting to learn how to become a great teacher,” said Algebra II teacher and water polo coach, Mrs. Benton, formally known as Ms. Scott. She also bought gel boards from the convention for her Algebra II classes and is very exited to use them, as are her students. The many conferences ACSI offers are intended to enrich the teaching of truth.
