Lately the lunch lines at Valley have been challenging; they take up to fifteen minutes in some cases. People tend to wait until the last minute to decide what the want, and then they have to fish the money out of their backpacks for another five minutes.
“The lunch lines take forever,” said freshman Jeho Hong, a student who buys his lunch everyday. People need to be more organized if they want the lines to move faster. A lot of people just stand in the line talking with their friends and don’t even realize the line has moved. Even though there’s about six or seven workers, the lines still move incredibly slow. There are two kinds of people in the line, the people who cut in line, and those who don’t. About eighty percent of the people in line don’t even realize someone has cut in front of them. Some people just walk right up to the front of the line and buy their lunch while the people behind them are either staring at their shoes or chatting with their friends.
When you’re in line you really need to pay attention. People cut in front of others very quickly, and also if you’re a guy, watch your back pocket. Putting cash back there can be like buying someone a free lunch! Some people have put a couple dollars back there and check back in a few hours and it’s gone.
Some students go to the baseball stadium to buy their food but that line is often the longest. Cutting in lines happens a lot there too! Even though the lunch workers work as fast as they can, they have a hard time keeping up with the amount of people. That’s why there’s probably only two ways out of this. The first one is pretty obvious but surprisingly some people don’t think of it; bring your lunch. The other option is pretty challenging but you can do it. As soon as class ends, don’t wait for your friends, don’t go to your locker, just go straight to the lunch windows. You may not be first in line but at least you’re not sixteen people away from the window.
