Valley Goes Back
by Alyssa Tomasello and Jeho Hong

Students of Valley Christian celebrated Homecoming Spirit the week of September 25. Crazy outfits, wild rallies, and outrageous lunch contests made for a spectacular week as Valley went “back”.

“Aloha!” was heard throughout the halls as Monday’s Hawaiian Day kicked of the week. Despite the chilly weather, students arrived at school with hula skirts, sandals, and of course leis. During lunch, a representative from each class dared to take off their shoes and stick their feet into a bucket of ice filled with smelly sardines. The student’s toe talents were tested, as they raced to pluck out the most fish with their toes first. The freshman gave the upperclassman a run for their money and came out on top.

On Tuesday, sport jerseys, T-shirts, and sweatshirts were spotted throughout the campus in celebration of Sports Day. Basketball, football, baseball, and even the occasional ping-pong garb were a part of the wardrobe. The highlight of the week was Pajama Day. Once a year, students are able to roll out of bed and come to school in their PJs. According to senior, Chana’e Jones, “Pajama Day is my favorite day because all you have to do is roll out of bed and not even change your clothes! I came to school in what I was wearing the night before!” Students were comfortable and relaxed throughout the day. Homecoming Chapel was also held on Wednesday. All of the members of the court were presented to their class along with a special video interview. Hilarious facts and outrageous sounds were heard throughout the video. Silly games such as dodging eggs while blind folded and singing with a mouth full of peanut butter, had the crowds roaring in laughter. It was definitely a very memorable and amusing Homecoming Chapel.

The following day, students came to school dressed in their class themes. The freshman arrived with backpacking gear and the sophomores looked as if they had just gotten off a plane from the Outback. Juniors had the theme of backyard barbecue and they came prepared with their chef hats and spatulas. Clothes from the past and the future displayed the senior theme: Back to the Future. “When I was walking up to the quad, I felt like I was in a whole different world, with all of the diverse costumes and wacky attire. It made the school day so much more entertaining!” stated Alyssa Berding, a sophomore. For the last day of the week, students came to school in full blue and white attire to display their school spirit and to support the powder puff teams.

The entire week was an overall success, ending with the seniors dominating as usual. Closely trailing behind were the sophomores, followed by the freshmen and the juniors. It is only hoped that the following homecomings can live up to the standards
set by the 2006 Fall Homecoming.
