The Warriors faced off against Merrill West from Tracy. The Warriors struggled and fought hard but the were not able to pull out a win. The resulting score was 16-6. Next up was the trip up to San Francisco where the Warriors were to face off against Archbishop Riordan. With many students going to watch the game the Valley Christian Warriors football team was ready to give it their all. The Warriors fought hard but could not come out with a win; the resulting score was Archbishop Riordan 34, Valley Christian 13. After and emotional loss to Archbishop Riordan the Varsity Warriors were ready to try to bounce back. They were up against Saint Ignatius at home the next week, and unfortunately the boys were matched against such a huge team. This was reflected in the end score, which was 48-19, with the SI win over Valley.
Even though the Warrior had lost, the group of varsity players were not ready to give up quite yet. In practice they decided to put the thought of all the losses to the side and focus on their next opponent. There opponent was Junipero Serra, who was ranked number one; this did not discourage the boys, this in fact motivate them. The game was arguably the most exciting game of the season up until that point. Valley Christian was fighting hard to keep up with the Padres, and they were doing a great job. The Warriors nearly won the game. From that day on, they felt they could challenge and keep up with any team they were to encounter. The team faced off with the Bellarmine Bells on the Warrior’s Senior Night. Even as underdogs the team battled. The score constantly went back and forth so that spectators had trouble being able to put a finger on who would be the winner of the game. When hope seemed gone in the fourth quarter, with just under 20 seconds left, Eddie Williams was able to catch a pass for the game-winning touchdown.
This was a significant game for the Warrior’s season. Not only was this their first win in league, but it was also the last time the seniors would be playing on their home turf. This was a very emotionally exciting game. Unfortunately in the next week, the boys fell to Saint Francis 27-6.
