Warrior Watch: USF Volleyball’s Newest Star... HALEY CARROLL
by Ryan Eshoff

One of the most highly touted girls volleyball players in the state of California, former VC volleyball star Haley Carroll has seen her college career get off to a superb start. A member of the Valley Christian senior class of 2006, Carroll was an offensive and defensive star for the Warriors after transferring from Presentation before her junior year. Carroll was an immediate hit, finishing first in the WCAL in service aces, 3rd in kills, and 2nd in digs, and being named to All-WCAL Second Team. As a senior, Carroll achieved the seemingly impossible task of besting her junior year statistics, leading the league in kills and digs, and tying for 3rd in services. Deservedly, she was named to the All-WCAL first team and earned a scholarship to USF, where her sister Darcy also currently attends.

Carroll entered her first collegiate season facing high expectations. Before the year began, USF Coach Jeff Nelson stated that he would “look for Haley to step right in and solidify [the USF] passing game. She is a smart player with excellent court presence, which is one of her best assets as a player. I expect her to make a big impact on our program from the start.” That was quite the understatement. At press time, the freshman libero had already had one of the greatest seasons for a defensive player of any grade level. Carroll has recorded 449 digs, already good for 5th place on the all-time WCC single-season list. Accordingly, she leads the Dons with 5.35 digs per game.

Against the Portland Pilots on October 21, Carroll had a USF single-match record 29 digs. In consecutive 3-0 victories over Gonzaga and Portland, Carroll averaged a terrific 8.33 digs a game, and received 40 serves successfully while making only 2 errors. The achievements of the freshman star did not go unnoticed. On October 23, Carroll was named WCC Co-Player of the Week.
