Every year at Valley Christian High School, the ASB chooses a theme that the students are to follow for the entire year. For this year’s theme, the ASB chose to ask students: “What Are You For?”.
I believe that the school theme is trying to get the entire student body to really see what they live for. Do they live for themselves? Do they live for God? Or are they living life for the moment? But before I give my perspective on this theme, let’s see how the other students reacted to this question. Sophomore Peipe James thought the theme was very interesting. He said that he lives for the Lord and plays for Christ when he plays football and wrestles. James said he likes to live like a cheetah, loyal to all of his teammates and always striving to be the fastest player out on the field. The juniors had the most to say about the class theme. Junior Eric Michael Sprauve loves the theme. Sprauve believes that the theme is challenging students to take a closer look at what their life is about. He said that he truly lives for God, and wants to serve Him through his academic life and his athletic life.
Finally the seniors were the most spirited when asked about the theme. Senior Josiah Rodriguez truly believes that this theme is going to make a difference in the high school classes. He believes that he lives for baseball and represents God through his strong play. He always goes through the same game plan before a game. Always before a game, Rodriguez, known as “Hairy J” to his teammates, prays for a strong performance and that his play would please the Lord. As for my perspective, I believe that the question is asking what you represent. For some people, they live for getting into a good college. For others, they live for playing sports and representing themselves through their athletic ability.
And another group of people try to represent God in all they do. I believe that I am a mix of all three groups. My first goal is to represent God in all that I do, whether it be academically, athletically, or spiritually. As a whole, I believe that the entire high school liked the ASB theme because it allows students to really see What They Are For.
