Fall Sports Rally a Success!
by Taryn Gifford

This year’s first sports rally was a huge success. Opened by ASB president Nathan Sills, all of the fall sports teams stood up individually to be recognized. The saluted teams included girls and boys water polo, girls volleyball, football, and cross-country.

The rally then proceeded with the traditional rally games, only this year they were more organized and better than ever. First it was students against teachers with a sort of basketball in rolling office chairs; baskets were trashcans. Participants for team teachers were Mr. Scialabba, Ms. Keel, Ms. Nelson, and Mr. Guven, who ran down to the gym floor (sporting a sophomore class shirt) in the nick of time to replace the absent Mr. Torode. Team students included freshmen Ryan Sills, sophomore Jessica Smith, junior Kelsi Okuda, and senior Jacob Young. In an intense game the teachers ran laps around the students, winning in the end with a basket dunked by Mr. Scialabba.

His only response to his game-winning dunk was, “You know.”

Moving on, the student representatives for the next game were sent outside of the gym as the floor was set up. Two tables were set with Mr. Hinn in the middle; a tablecloth was then placed over the tables, with a hole for Mr. Hinn’s head.

Boxes were placed on the table with candy, money, a stuffed animal, and Mr. Hinn’s head underneath the boxes. The students were then called back in, handed a plastic bat and then timed to complete the course, removing each box as quickly as possible. The best reactions came from sophomoreAlyssa Sinyard, who jumped back five feet after finding Mr. Hinn under his box, and senior Jeff Rogers, who hit the box off of Mr. Hinn’s head with a little extra force.

Games completed, the team leaders from all of the teams were then called to the gym floor to stand in a joined circle as Mr. Hinn prayed for the upcoming games and year.

This powerful conclusion to the rally made it, all in all, a great experience that united not only the teams, but also the entire school.
