A
Look Inside the Youth Group of Calvary Church
by Chris McElhatton

In life, nothing matters as much as your relationship with God. So
when it comes to finding a Youth Group to go to, it’s pretty important
to find one that really helps in connecting you to God. And having
friends there isn’t too bad either…
Some of the big Youth Groups that kids from Valley go to can be a
nice place for friends, but do they get you closer to God? Why is
it that people go to some of these Youth Groups? Every issue, these
questions and more will be answered for a different Youth Group. And
who is up first? CALVARY CHURCH OF LOS GATOS!
Looking at their website, www.calvarychurchlosgatos.org, you can see
the High School Groups goals, as well as a number of events, photos,
and even reasons to have a relationship with God.
Operating around a baseball-diamond like structure, the Youth Group
uses Fellowship, Discipleship, Service, Outreach, and Worship to glorify
God. Meeting on Wednesday nights, they break into small groups according
to grade level and gender. This is where the real action is. Though
the High School group sponsors many events, it is in the small groups
where the real connections happen. Drawing close to God, and each
other, is of the utmost importance, and creating an open environment
where youth can feel comfortable in sharing takes a close second.
Valley Christian Senior Steven Giordano likes the Youth Group because;
“We’ve set goals for ourselves so we can become closer together.”
It’s all about being in sync.
And how is it that the small groups get closer together? Through prayer
and open discussions; but also through the numerous trips out for
food and fellowship. With one trip out for Su’s Mongolian Barbeque,
and more scheduled for La Castana, Taco Bravo, and more, Calvary Church
of Los Gatos provides many ways for those who attends it’s Youth Group
to simply get to know one another.
So if you’re looking for a great place to fill you up with food for
your soul, for your stomach, or for your friends, think about Calvary
Church of Los Gatos, 16330 Los Gatos Boulevard, a place where you
can step in from the cold world, and warm your soul.

Shakespeare, Where Art
Thou?
For some people, spending eight hours on a bus seems like some new
type of torture. Everyone going on the 11th Annual Oregon Shakespeare
Festival trip, though, saw things a little differently.
Coming prepared, all the students had some sort of diversion from
the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon
gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

Two '100 Year' Storms
Devastate Gulf Coast
Two monster storms, aptly called 100 year storms, savaged the Gulf
Coast last month. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita swept in from the waters
of the Gulf of Mexico. As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific
forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity
level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf
Coast.

Warriors of the Waves
The start of the new season for the Warriors Varsity Water Polo team
has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer. An intense
training regiment filled early mornings and late evenings with long
hours practicing the fundamentals and conditioning. All this work
helped the Water Polo team prepare for another grueling schedule in
the West Catholic League. Senior Andrew Kikuta and
Junior Jonathan Langdon are this year's team captains.
