Review: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
by Becky Wu
“I’ve got the golden ticket!”
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Johnny Depp,
Freddie Highmore, David Kelly, Helena
Bonham Carter, and Deep Roy, is an exciting
remake of the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
This “sweet” movie directed by Tim Burton tells a story about a young
boy from an impoverished family who won a gold ticket to tour the
most amazing chocolate factory in the world.
The owner of this phenomenal factory is Willy Wonka, an unusual and
quirky man. He put 5 golden tickets within the different chocolate
bars that were shipped to various places in the world. The 5 lucky
children who win the ticket will have a chance to tour the Wonka factory.
Charlie along with the four lucky winners toured the factory. Among
the 5 kids, Charlie was the only one who was not spoiled and maintained
good behavior. The rest of the children misbehaved and eventually
received consequences for their misdemeanor.
The movie was appealing due to the acting skills of Johnny Depp and
the casts, the extraordinary special effects, and the wonderful story
plots. It is an excellent movie to watch with family or friends. Numerous
humor and lines were used in the movie to bring great laughs. Senior
Stephanie Neil said, “I loved it! I thought it was
awesome!” Junior Alan Lee said, “It was weird, but
good.”
So students, go to the nearest theater or Blockbuster. You don’t want
to miss out on this delicious movie! Don’t forget to watch the movie
with some sweet chocolate treats, or you’ll be craving chocolate big
time after the movie.

Shakespeare, Where Art
Thou?
For some people, spending eight hours on a bus seems like some new
type of torture. Everyone going on the 11th Annual Oregon Shakespeare
Festival trip, though, saw things a little differently.
Coming prepared, all the students had some sort of diversion from
the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon
gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

Two '100 Year' Storms
Devastate Gulf Coast
Two monster storms, aptly called 100 year storms, savaged the Gulf
Coast last month. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita swept in from the waters
of the Gulf of Mexico. As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific
forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity
level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf
Coast.

Warriors of the Waves

has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer. An intense
training regiment filled early mornings and late evenings with long
hours practicing the fundamentals and conditioning. All this work
helped the Water Polo team prepare for another grueling schedule in
the West Catholic League. Senior Andrew Kikuta and
Junior Jonathan Langdon are this year's team captains.
