Music Review: Chris Tomlin
by Becky Wu

Arriving, the newest CD from Christian artist Chris
Tomlin, included many amazing worship songs for all Christians.
The record contained some of the most well known Christian songs that
the Valley chapel band often sings. These inspiring tunes find their
ways into the heads of many Valley students who often hum and sing
them outside of chapel. The most popular of these songs includes “Indescribable”,
“Forever” and “Holy is the Lord”.
Aside from the excellent tunes these songs have, the meanings behind
it is far important. “I feel as though we’re like this landing strip
in the desert for our great, incredible God to arrive on; a way for
Him to come into people’s lives,” said Chris Tomlin. The album Arriving
was inspired mostly by Isaiah 40. This chapter from the Bible addresses
God’s comfort for all His people and calls Christians together from
around the world to surrender to God and experience His love.
Reflecting God’s words, the songs from Arriving stirred up the crowd
to worship God at the 2004 Willow Creek Arts Festival. Excited to
see the people’s reaction, Chris Tomlin exclaimed, “I am so excited
about what’s going on!” he continues. “I pray that people will know
more and hunger more after God because of these songs. People are
changed because of God arriving in their lives. Grace changes people
into people with hope.” This is a perfect example about how music
brings fellowship to Christians.

Shakespeare, Where Art
Thou?
For some people, spending eight hours on a bus seems like some new
type of torture. Everyone going on the 11th Annual Oregon Shakespeare
Festival trip, though, saw things a little differently.
Coming prepared, all the students had some sort of diversion from
the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon
gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

Two '100 Year' Storms
Devastate Gulf Coast
Two monster storms, aptly called 100 year storms, savaged the Gulf
Coast last month. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita swept in from the waters
of the Gulf of Mexico. As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific
forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity
level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf
Coast.

Warriors of the Waves
The start of the new season for the Warriors Varsity Water Polo team
has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer. An intense
training regiment filled early mornings and late evenings with long
hours practicing the fundamentals and conditioning. All this work
helped the Water Polo team prepare for another grueling schedule in
the West Catholic League. Senior Andrew Kikuta and
Junior Jonathan Langdon are this year's team captains.
