Freshmen
Girls Volleyball
by Victoria Bergland
With extreme dedication and hard work during practice, the freshmen
girls volleyball team is improving daily and becoming a great asset
to the Valley Christian sports family.
The girls came up a little short against San Benito Hollister on September
1. However, for a first match, the girls stretched the Haybalers,
taking the match to three games. After a back and forth battle, the
VC players lost by a mere five points.
On September 6, they once again battled hard, but lost to Mountain
View. Undaunted, the Lady Warriors went out with complete confidence
against Independence, on September 12. Their poise was evident to
all in attendance. They lost the first game 20-25, but the freshmen
Warrior girls continued to fight. During the next game, Christina
Daou made eight serves in a row leading the team to victory.
The next game was a victory as the Valley Christian freshmen girls
volleyball team triumphed 25-18 and 25-12 against Milpitas on September
22. Freshman Alyssa Tomasello, spoke for her whole
team when she stated, “We have come such a long way in such a short
time, and I think we have a good chance of doing really well.”

Festival trip, though, saw things a little differently.
Coming prepared, all the students had some sort of diversion from
the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon
gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

Two '100 Year' Storms
Devastate Gulf Coast
Two monster storms, aptly called 100 year storms, savaged the Gulf
Coast last month. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita swept in from the waters
of the Gulf of Mexico. As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific
forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity
level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf
Coast.

Warriors of the Waves
The start of the new season for the Warriors Varsity Water Polo team
has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer. An intense
training regiment filled early mornings and late evenings with long
hours practicing the fundamentals and conditioning. All this work
helped the Water Polo team prepare for another grueling schedule in
the West Catholic League. Senior Andrew Kikuta and
Junior Jonathan Langdon are this year's team captains.
