Health-4-Self
by Victoria Bergland and Caitlin Mulvihill

“The greatest wealth is health.” (Virgil). Health may seem like a strange topic, but in all honesty, one way or another, people think about it. Whether it has to do with fitness, nutrition, or just overall wellness, as a member of this society, temptation to become unhealthy without knowing it, is a part of life we all have to deal with. There are so many aspects of daily living that, no matter what age or stage of life a person is in, they will come across areas they need to spend extra time on, in order to feel good. Moreover, the factors that many of us encounter, such as the big test, the big game, or the big dance, can simply be less stressful and easier on our bodies if we just take the time to slow down and focus on what we know we need to do in order to balance it all, while still looking, feeling, and being great. And this is where we come in. Over the next seven newspapers that will be printed, there will be a section, by us, covering some very important facts of life, informing you on what to do that’s the best for your body. The overview of each month is as follows:

November: Basic nutrition. Next month we will focus on how you should treat your body by means of eating healthy, but still enjoying what you’re eating. We will go over the basic areas you should concentrate on and why.

December: Stress and anxiety. At this time, finals will be just around the corner, and many of you will be extremely anxious to get them done with and begin Christmas vacation. We plan to give you some tips on how to stay relaxed and get through it with as much confidence as possible.

January: Skin health. Yes, it may seem a little embarrassing and awkward to confront, but Winter Ball will be coming up, and we know many of you will be wondering how your skin will look…both boys and girls. It’s okay, because we will help you to be certain you look wonderful, with knowledge about what to eat and what to do.

February: Sleep. Everyone’s favorite. This month we will inform you about what we know you probably won’t want to hear: how much sleep you really need to successfully prosper throughout the week. Yes, this is a very important part of life and is a great factor in healthy living.

March: Fitness. The beginning of spring is the time to get out and exercise. Although you may be a little hesitant about it, it’s essential to keep you feeling your best. We will give you some ideas on fun ways to stay fit.

April: Energy. One thing all of us will be in shortage of at this time of year. The end of school just around the bend, and we will be giving you tips to maintain the endurance needed to finish out the year strong.

May: Summer! We will provide suggestions to staying healthy, while having a great time during summer vacation.

Shakespeare, Where Art Thou?
For some people, spending eight hours on a bus seems like some new type of torture. Everyone going on the 11th Annual Oregon Shakespeare Festival trip, though, saw things a little differently.
Coming prepared, all the students had some sort of diversion from the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

Two '100 Year' Storms Devastate Gulf Coast
Two monster storms, aptly called 100 year storms, savaged the Gulf Coast last month. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita swept in from the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf Coast.

Warriors of the Waves
The start of the new season for the Warriors Varsity Water Polo team has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer.
