VCHS School Spirit Brings Pre-Game

Float, Court get Crowd Buzzing
by Michael Zamudio

On Saturday, October 1, Valley
Christian hosted Archbishop Mitty for the first night game in school
history, which also happened to be a very special occasion, Fall Homecoming.
The day began with float builders arriving at 2pm to begin constructing
the floats. While the floats were being assembled, the J.V. football
team played hard and came out victorious over Mitty. This win was
the first of many exciting moments throughout the night. After the
J.V. game, the floats were revealed. First came the freshmen float
covered with a plethora of blue decorations, and even “blue Smurfs”
(freshmen football players). Sophomores were given the theme of Looney
Toons, and created a Space Jam float decked out with a “Michael Jordan,”
sophomore Austin Simon, and a procession of various
cartoon characters. The Power Rangers were present “inside” a huge,
life-size, television built by the junior class. The final float was
a spectacular, two-story, Ninja-Turtles inspired float of the seniors,
complete with a “Ninja” band playing the Ninja Turtles’ theme song.

the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon
gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

Two '100 Year' Storms
Devastate Gulf Coast
Two monster storms, aptly called 100 year storms, savaged the Gulf

of the Gulf of Mexico. As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific
forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity
level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf
Coast.

Warriors of the Waves
The start of the new season for the Warriors Varsity Water Polo team
has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer. An intense
training regiment filled early mornings and late evenings with long
hours practicing the fundamentals and conditioning. All this work
helped the Water Polo team prepare for another grueling schedule in
the West Catholic League. Senior Andrew Kikuta and
Junior Jonathan Langdon are this year's team captains.
