Football Starts Undefeated!
by Corban Fennell
The Valley Christian junior varsity
started this season off with a big bang! The Warriors shut down the
San Benito Hay Balers in the season opening game, with a score of
35 - 0. Eric Jucco and Dan Carillo
were the two top scorers of this game, scoring two touch downs apiece,
as well as Scott Cody who managed to squeeze in a
touch down in the very last seconds of the game. In the second victory,
the Warriors defeated the Milpitas High Trojans 37-6. The Warriors
were able to keep the Trojans to only one touchdown because of their
outstanding defense.
When talking to defensive coach Doug Canepa he said,
“Defense is the most important part of the game.” The players put
in a lot of hard work to form a great defensive team. Before every
game the boys watch tons of film of previous games so they are sure
to know their responsibilities and not to make defensive mistakes.
They also study their opponent’s offense, so that when they are all
suited up they are well prepared for anything and everything that
gets thrown at them!
Other important assets to the team are the captains. Unlike some other
teams, the junior varsity team has weekly captains. These are the
athletes who fulfill a list of requirements such as leadership, work
ethics, general and spiritual maturity, good “decision making,” and
respect. In the third week of the season, the Warriors beat Grant
high school 17-8, followed up by a tie to Tracy 0-0. Then the Warriors
marched onto another victory over Mitty, 42-29 as well as defeating
Riordan 40-7. The J.V. Warriors are having a very successful season
with a record of 5-0-1.
All in all it has been a great year for the Warriors so far, and there
is much more to come.

Shakespeare, Where Art
Thou?
For some people, spending eight hours on a bus seems like some new
type of torture. Everyone going on the 11th Annual Oregon Shakespeare
Festival trip, though, saw things a little differently.
Coming prepared, all the students had some sort of diversion from
the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon
gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

Two '100 Year' Storms
Devastate Gulf Coast
Two monster storms, aptly called 100 year storms, savaged the Gulf
Coast last month. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita swept in from the waters
of the Gulf of Mexico. As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific
forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity
level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf
Coast.

Warriors of the Waves
The start of the new season for the Warriors Varsity Water Polo team
has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer. An intense
training regiment filled early mornings and late evenings with long
hours practicing the fundamentals and conditioning. All this work
helped the Water Polo team prepare for another grueling schedule in
the West Catholic League. Senior Andrew Kikuta and
Junior Jonathan Langdon are this year's team captains.
