JV Girls Tennis
by Brittany Brinkman

The upcoming tennis season should be full of fun, success, and of course hard work. With tough match ups, two matches a week, and practice everyday these girls will be all fired up for their hopeful season.
This year the tennis program is welcoming Terry Cress as the new J.V. coach. Last year he began helping the varsity players a few days a week. Now the J.V. team has a dedicated coach that can really challenge their skills and natural talents. His many years of experience are going to bring new opportunities to this team.
The tennis season began on August 15 when the girls spent their last summer days training hard. As school came around the J.V. team continued to practice in the grueling summer heat. Their first practice match took place on September 8 against Los Altos High School. Playing this game helped the girls get into the routine of hitting hard, traveling far, and working together. The J.V. team’s first league match occurred on September 22 against Sacred Heart Cathedral. Naturally a tough opponent, the J.V. girls competed with class and a competitive spirit. The J.V team attracted many fans and fellow classmates to their first home match. Coach Cress enjoyed seeing his girls work hard and have fun. Even though they did not nab a victory, the team played extremely well and is looking forward to beating this team the next time around.
Seeing some wins in their future the J.V. girls cannot wait to get back out there. Erin Parker said, “I really enjoy playing tennis with all my friends and I love all the new friends I have made. We all work so hard at after school practices and hopefully our hard work will pay off with many victories.” This team is looking forward to a fun and victorious season.

Coming prepared, all the students had some sort of diversion from the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf Coast.

Warriors of the Waves
The start of the new season for the Warriors Varsity Water Polo team has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer. An intense training regiment filled early mornings and late evenings with long hours practicing the fundamentals and conditioning. All this work helped the Water Polo team prepare for another grueling schedule in the West Catholic League. Senior Andrew Kikuta and Junior Jonathan Langdon are this year's team captains.
