Outside
of VC Band: My Former Self
by Steven Giordano

All around the Valley Christian student body is talent quite possibly
never completely known. One’s garage, the VC talent show, and High
School Sports Focus’s ‘Battle of the Bands’ are not enough to fully
display this musical talent. My Former Self, comprised of both current
and alumni of Valley Christian (along with one without any actual
connection), has made quite a name for itself in the past years, and
especially the most recent months.
This group, being characterized by fast paced rhythms, develops a
unique sound to punk rock. While visiting their temporary sight (www.myspace.com/myformerself),
immediately one is struck by the upbeat tempo. Making its roots about
four years ago, with just three guys getting together and having a
good time the founders realized their potential. Tyler (vocals), Brent
(drums), and Justin (guitar) were the founders. Despite their obvious
talent, they did not take their talent into honest consideration.
Justin Florence stated, “[We] didn’t really get serious until about
a year ago when we got Chris Isaacs and Seth Cummings.” Chris is on
guitar and vocals while Seth plays bass, piano, and the ‘keys.’ From
this point on, these five (four of which from Valley at one time)
took their possible careers to the next level.
Touring from mainly throughout the Midwest, My Former Self picked
up momentum. Making a name for themselves, these next few months to
the end of 2005 will be quite hectic. They plan to visit fifteen states
with twenty seven scheduled shows in the months of October, November,
and December.
Their Fremont practice site has become like a second home as these
guys work hard each and every night for about two to three hours.
They are hopeful for a record signing in the near future. Their closest
performance is November 4 at the Saratoga Recreation Center. Visit
them at their temporary site or eventually at www.myformerself.com.

Shakespeare, Where Art
Thou?
For some people, spending eight hours on a bus seems like some new
type of torture. Everyone going on the 11th Annual Oregon Shakespeare
Festival trip, though, saw things a little differently.
Coming prepared, all the students had some sort of diversion from
the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon
gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

Two '100 Year' Storms
Devastate Gulf Coast
Two monster storms, aptly called 100 year storms, savaged the Gulf
Coast last month. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita swept in from the waters
of the Gulf of Mexico. As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific
forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity
level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf
Coast.

Warriors of the Waves
The start of the new season for the Warriors Varsity Water Polo team
has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer. An intense
training regiment filled early mornings and late evenings with long
hours practicing the fundamentals and conditioning. All this work
helped the Water Polo team prepare for another grueling schedule in
the West Catholic League. Senior Andrew Kikuta and
Junior Jonathan Langdon are this year's team captains.
