New Teacher at VCHS
AP English Teacher, Miss Julie Claypool

Change is inevitable. Change happens. Change will change your life. And now, change changes your school’s teachers
The new teacher to be introduced this month is Miss Julie Claypool. Miss Claypool is the new AP English teacher. Miss Claypool taught similar classes last year in Akron, Ohio. It is also interesting to note that Ms. Claypool previously taught in a private school.
Why would someone move from Ohio to California? According to Miss Claypool, things in her life just made it rather clear that she should relocate to California to teach – there were “lots of opened doors, and they all led to California.”
Aside from feeling led to come to California, Miss Claypool has taken to the Golden State. “Yes, I like it!” she stated. She finds the students at Valley very friendly and her colleagues helpful. The great weather in California is a definite plus in her reasons for her exhuberance. She also recognizes the opportunities for students at this school and that teachers have more freedom to develop their own talents at school.
Looking forward to the remainder of this school year, she thinks this year will be rather busy and be a bit of an adjustment.
Regarding her likes, one of them is water skiing, another is the sun and the beach, especially Santa Cruz. She also enjoys photography, though she does it unprofessionally. Miss Claypool also enjoys reading. On a rather similar note, she is, in fact, writing a book – a fantasy novel, to be exact. As far as any details on the book itself go, inquisitive minds can inquire about details from the author herself. Miss Claypool thanks everyone at Valley for being so kind to her.

Coming prepared, all the students had some sort of diversion from the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

Two '100 Year' Storms Devastate Gulf Coast
Two monster storms, aptly called 100 year storms, savaged the Gulf Coast last month. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita swept in from the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf Coast.

Warriors of the Waves
The start of the new season for the Warriors Varsity Water Polo team has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer. An intense training regiment filled early mornings and late evenings with long hours practicing the fundamentals and conditioning. All this work helped the Water Polo team prepare for another grueling schedule in the West Catholic League. Senior Andrew Kikuta and Junior Jonathan Langdon are this year's team captains.
