Night
Rally
by Nicole Nielsen & Selena Ma

September 30 brought fun and games to Valley Christian, along with
Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Looney Toons, and Smurfs. Students,
parents, and teachers piled into the large gym, looking forward to
a great night ahead.
The freshman class started off a little behind by lacking guy cheer
this year. Although they had no cheer, they provided a piñata
game with an abundant supply of candy for everyone.
The sophomores gave a new meaning to “guy” cheer this year when a
group of girls put on baggy pants, big shirts and sideways hats. However,
changing the rules leads to disqualification, and despite all the
girls’ hard work, they were not eligible to gain points for their
class.
The well prepared J.V. and Varsity cheerleaders put on an amazing
performance for the students. They gave the audience a small taste
of their homecoming performance, saving the best for the half-time
game on Saturday night. Led by captains Ashleigh Ferrante
and Aimeé D’hondt, the cheerleaders’ high
intensity and big smiles got the crowd going and amazed everyone watching.
Juniors Chris Palmer, Chris Jimenez,
Adam Walls, Conlyn Glover, and
Josh Lawman united together to give a powerful performance.
Each individually dressed as either a red, blue, yellow, black, or
pink power ranger, and as a group proved that practice makes perfect.
The juniors put on a good show, and received 100 points for winning
guy cheer.
The senior guy cheer, dressed from head to toe in ninja turtle gear,
was heavily anticipated by the entire student body. Perfectly in sync
with one another, the boys performed with enthusiasm and a little
sass. Half way through their routine the seniors were disqualified,
bringing the crowd to an uproar. Despite the automatic disqualification,
the boys who participated still had fun. “We were grateful for the
crowd’s support and we had fun during the time we were out there and
a big thanks to the girls that choreographed the dance for us, we
love you!” states senior guy cheer participant, Justin Tedrick.

Shakespeare, Where Art
Thou?
For some people, spending eight hours on a bus seems like some new
type of torture. Everyone going on the 11th Annual Oregon Shakespeare
Festival trip, though, saw things a little differently.
Coming prepared, all the students had some sort of diversion from
the drive; the neon glow of iPods, cell phones, and even a Pokémon
gameboy, poured out of people's seats and into the aisle.

Two '100 Year' Storms
Devastate Gulf Coast
Two monster storms, aptly called 100 year storms, savaged the Gulf
Coast last month. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita swept in from the waters
of the Gulf of Mexico. As winds began to blow, reporters gave horrific
forecasts of what was to come. Hurricane Katrina, a category 4 (intensity
level out of 5), devastated much of the United States along the Gulf
Coast.

Warriors of the Waves
The start of the new season for the Warriors Varsity Water Polo team
has actually been going strong since the beginning of summer. An intense
training regiment filled early mornings and late evenings with long
hours practicing the fundamentals and conditioning. All this work
helped the Water Polo team prepare for another grueling schedule in
the West Catholic League. Senior Andrew Kikuta and
Junior Jonathan Langdon are this year's team captains.
