VC wrestling has proved to be a dominating force in the WCAL league. Boys varsity wrestling has been doing extremely well this season. With 3 meets and 5 tournaments behind them, these Warriors are about 70% through with their season!
At the past tournament in Sacramento this weekend to compete in the infamous Foothill Invitational, many wrestlers tried their hardest, but only three Warriors advanced. This was a two day double elimination tournament that featured 87 high schools. It was so big it was hosted at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium in downtown Sacramento. The VC wrestling team was aware of the fierce competition. But it was no match for their impenetrable Warrior pride. These Warriors brought it home: junior Charlie Galaviz 3 wins, 1 loss, sophomore Mafoe James 3 wins 1 loss, and senior Ryan Gardner 3 wins no losses. They knew the probability of success was low. This was pretty monumental. Sophomores Peipe James and Chris Tozer barely lost their last matches preventing 5 wrestlers in total from advancing into day two’s competition.
The tournament in Gilroy was a success as expected. Nine Valley Warriors competed in this tournament and two were placed within the top 6 positions in their weight class. Ryan Gardner and Peipe James, both ranked wrestlers in CCS, were awarded with 4th place honors. Commendable performances were also shown by other varsity wrestlers: Mafoe James, Chris Tozer, Charlie Galaviz, AJ Crawley, and CJ Van Elderen. Respectable performances were given to first time varsity wrestlers Jordan Osuna and Keven Ngo.
The Valley Christian Warrior wrestlers are finishing their season with perseverance. They always give it their best and wrestle for their Savior.
