As the new school year is beginning and the pressures of sports and
academics are already rising, I
think it would be wise if we all
took a step back and asked
ourselves, "What is driving my
life?" Many things can drive our
lives – money, materialism,
success, or popularity. But as
Christians, there can only be
one driver in the front seat of
our lives – God. If anything
else becomes more important than
God, our vision of His plan for
us will be dim. Philippians
3:15 from The Message says,
"So let's keep focused on that
goal, those of us who want
everything God has for us. If
any of you have something else
in mind, something less than
total commitment, God will clear
your blurred vision…". These
words of Paul are still
applicable today. God expects
total commitment from us so that
He can carry out His work in our
lives. Sometimes our sight of
God's vision for our lives is
blurred by our own ambitions.
But if we truly let God drive
our lives, we will become
radically changed, on-fire
Christians to be used for His
purposes. Pastor Rick Warren,
author of The Purpose Driven
Life, writes that "if you
want your life to have impact,
stop dabbling! Stop trying to do
it all…do only that which
matters most." Though our life
situations are different, God
has given each one of us a
tremendous opportunity. What we
do with that opportunity is our
own choice. When we stand before
God in Heaven someday, we will
be held accountable for what we
did with our energy, time,
relationships, and talents. Did
we use these things for God's
purpose, or did we bring glory
to ourselves? Romans 11:36
(NLT) says, "…everything exists
by His power and is intended for
His glory." We glorify God by
dedicating ourselves to His
purpose for our lives. What is
driving your life?
