The JV Boys water polo team started their season off with a splash. During the summer, while most students were cooling off in the pool, these boys were heating it up. The team worked hard this summer, with early morning practices, long double days and lots of conditioning. As the sseason started, the practices did not ease up. Coaches Marshal Pilkington and Glenn Reichard have these boys working after school and sometimes early in the morning, before the sun even comes up.
The team's first game was against Menlo-Atherton. The team didn't manage to capture a win, but sophomore Alex Higginbotham scored two goals and freshman Luke Liu had one. The team's hard work finally paid off when they played Live Oak on September 6. The team managed a win and a score of 15-10. The team's top scorer was Higginbotham, who scored eight points and helped his team to their first victory. Jeremy Corales, sophomore, stated, "The team played very well this game, we deserved the win." It sure seems like the team has started off great and will be ready when the WCAL finals come around.
The expectations are soaring on the water polo team. Captains Nick Kikuta, sophomore, and Liu are thrilled about this year's team and cannot wait to really get into the season. Kikuta's expectations for this year is to, "get more fit and to grow as a team." The competitive spirit on the team is high, and the boys are ready to battle. As the boys spend lunchtime together down by the pool, bonding and strategizing, it certain seems like this year will be a year of success.
