"What's in a name? That which we
call a rose by any other name
would smell as sweet." This is a
line you would hear in Valley
Christian High School's fall
production Romeo and Juliet
opening October 18, 2006. This
Shakespearean play illustrates
the story between two
star-crossed lovers in the
sixteenth century. Mr.
Matthew DeMeritt chose Romeo
and Juliet because of its
timeless essence and continuous
themes.
Producing this play takes
dedication, time, and endless
effort. The theatre's number one
priority is to create a
fantastic production that
incorporates all the elements of
acting. Mr. DeMeritt found that
this year there were many
outstanding actors and
actresses, but he needed to
narrow it down to one actor and
actress for the lead roles. The
part of Romeo was given to
senior David Clift
because he provides experience
of natural characterization and
a strong stage presence. Clift
has acted in all of Valley
Christian's plays since his
freshman year and has a strong
passion for theatre. Sophomore
Janelle Kester will take
the role of Juliet, bringing a
fresh, quirky attitude to the
stage. Kester has a heart for
theatre and puts all her extra
time into perfecting her acting
skills. The theatre department
has dedicated an endless amount
of time to produce the best play
possible. Support the theatre
department by attending the play
starting October 18.
