At 7:00
PM on September 9, students and
teachers came together to
celebrate Valley Christian's
first dance of the year, the
Square Dance. Held outside in
Valley's quad with the theme of
"Wild Wild West," students
matched outfits or dressed up in
creative costumes with their
dates or groups of friends.
The atmosphere was fun and
playful, giving the dance a much
more laid back vibe compared to
the other dances held throughout
the year. Students embraced this
casual environment by racing one
another on a blow-up bungee cord
apparatus and taking goofy
pictures in the
theme-appropriate display in the
gymnasium. The balcony above the
baseball stadium featured a disc
jockey and a horde of students
dancing the night away. The
energy was infectious, but the
night's exertions were
definitely tiring! Luckily,
there were tables full of
scrumptious snacks like caramel
apples, candy, and hot
chocolate, which kept everyone
warm. Despite being cursed with
bad weather conditions during
past Square Dances, the night
was perfect with cool
temperatures and a clear sky.
Some students had more fun
choosing their costumes than
actually playing and chatting at
the dance. These individuals
went to extremes to get the
perfect outfit. Minnie and
Mickey Mouse, Nacho Libre and
the Nun, and two Patrick's from
Spongebob Squarepants were
scattered throughout the crowd,
making good conversation
starters and reminding us all
that Halloween is on the way.
Eric Tort, who dressed as
Jack Sparrow, accompanied by
Victoria Rees as Elizabeth
Swan said, "We came to have a
good time and compared to past
years, this one was actually
really enjoyable." This positive
view of the night was common
among the majority of students.
