In September, Valley Christian
High School completed the first
successful Spiritual Emphasis
Week of the year. For seniors,
this was your second to last
Spiritual Emphasis Week. For
freshmen, it was your first of
four years of high school and
your first time participating in
Spiritual Emphasis Week. This
year VC students learned about
"Cat and Dog Theology" and how
it affects their relationship
with Christ.
Monday September 11:
While the seniors were at Mt.
Hermon for their senior retreat,
the rest of the high school
started Spiritual Emphasis Week.
Sam Talbert introduced
his topic of "Cat and Dog
Theology." Many students found
this topic very interesting and
wondered what this new topic was
about. As the speaker introduced
this idea, he asked the
underclassmen if they were a
"cat" or a "dog" type of
Christian. Tuesday
September 12: With the
seniors now joining the
underclassmen in chapel, Talbert
reintroduced his topic and
further expounded on "Cat and
Dog Theology." He explained what
it meant to be a "cat" or "dog"
type of Christian. Talbert
explained how cats like to sit
around and let their masters do
everything for them, but with
dogs, the master means
everything to them and all they
want to do is please them.
Wednesday September 13:
By the middle of the week,
Talbert dug deeper into his "Cat
and Dog Theology". He asked all
students, "Which one are you?
Are you the cat type in which
you sit around and let someone
else do all the work, or are you
the dog type in which you serve
the Lord and want to please
Him?"
Thursday September 14:
Talbert asked students to
reflect on the week. He asked
students to question whether
they had satisfied God during
this week, or had they pleased
only themselves. Then he asked
which type of person we wanted
to be by saying, "Do we want to
do nothing, yet still receive
all of the blessings, or do we
want to serve God and please Him
in everything we do?"
Friday September 15: As
the week came to an end, Talbert
expanded his focus. He asked if
students were willing to
minister to everyone. He
explained how people are
ministering the most to the part
of the world that has already
heard the Word of God. Then he
asked students if they were
willing to enter other countries
of the world and minister to
them, so that they too could
hear the Word of God. All in
all, Spiritual Emphasis Week was
well received and presented the
opportunity for students to
reevaluate their walk with God,
and make sure it was all about
Him.
