Show Spirit When "Valley Goes Back"
by Kylie Gifford

With football season nearly halfway over, homecoming, October 7, is just around the corner. Once again, the ASB has planned a week of fun opportunities for the student body to get involved and help earn points to boost their class to the top. Classes will get their first chance this year to show their spirit as "Valley Goes Back." Seniors will travel back through the decades with "Back to the Future," and juniors will test their ability to survive the "Outback." Sophomores will kick back with a "Backyard Barbeque," and freshmen will get back to basics with "Backpacking." Valley Christian's ASB and student council are working together to plan activities that will keep VC spirits high all week long. Lunchtime activities will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, each one incorporating one of the class themes. A few lucky participants will be chosen to represent each class, and their fellow classmates will be able to watch and cheer them on as they compete for various prizes.

Once again, the highlight of the week will be the powder puff games. The playoff round will be held at a rally on Thursday, where sophomores and juniors will battle it out for a chance to play the victor of the freshmen-senior game. The winning teams will advance to the championship game held on Friday night under the lights. The rally begins at 7, and it promises to be an event worth attending. The Fall Homecoming Court will be introduced on Wednesday during chapel. After the first round of voting, freshmen had narrowed down their choice for princess to Camille Tucker, Taylor Ulmer, and Victoria Evans; for their prince, they nominated Jimmy Bustamante, Kyle Grayson, and Ferre Tsai. Sophomores nominated Tally Slinker, Aimee Bishop, and Janay Lampkin for princess; Ryan Hunt, Shea Adams, and Jacob Ruiz were the nominees for prince. The juniors chose Tori Bergland, Katianna Bear, and Gina Portale as princess nominees, and Nathan Fairchild, Eric Bates, and Tyler Seaman as contenders for prince. Senior court included princess nominees Kylie Gifford, Rachel Schweiger, Lauren Grace, Allison Power, Maleesa Suksiri, and Tami Villa, as well as prince nominees Andrew Caine, Michael Kawamoto, Adam Carter, Ben Williams, Nathan Goldsmith, and David Yun. The classes went on to narrow down their choices, and the senior king and queen, chosen by the entire student body, will be crowned at the Homecoming game on Saturday, October 7.

As the first major event of the school year, Valley Christian awaits Fall Homecoming with much anticipation. This year, just like every other, the week promises to be an exciting way to get pumped up for the most exciting football game of the season.
