Just Another Singles Awareness Day

by Ashley Nguyen and Joyce Yoo

February 14th. A day for love. But what if you don’t have a special friend and you’re stuck at home alone while all your friends are out with their boyfriends or girlfriends? Here are some ideas for what you can do alone or with the few friends that don’t actually have someone else to be with on Valentine’s Day.

Ideas of what to do with your friends:
· Throw a fondue party with your friends.
· Go to a theater and check out the latest movies. (stay away from couples!)
· Make a scrapbook that doesn’t have anything to do with boys.
· Go ice-skating in downtown San Jose.
· Have a serene day at the spa and pamper yourselves.
· Invite them over to bake enjoyable, tasty treats or mass order takeout.
· Take a shopping trip and spoil yourselves.
· Host a slumber party and attach a fun theme, that doesn’t have anything to do with Valentine’s Day.
· Give each other makeovers, maybe that will fix the single problem.
· Pig out on junk food and buy each other valentines.

Ideas of what to do alone:
· Have a family night and appreciate the people that have to love you.
· Look at photo albums and reminisce about the times when you were actually happy.
· Go to a place that might not depress you, we just don’t know where that is.
· Buy yourself flowers. Maybe the delivery guy will be cute.
· Call someone you love and let him or her know it. Even though you’re miserable, maybe you’ll brighten up someone else’s day.
· Do your homework. It’s a Wednesday. Forget that it’s Valentine’s Day. It’s just a commercial holiday anyway.
· Take a chance and ask that guy/girl that you’ve been crushing on out on a date.
· Your friends ditched you? Make two new best friends named Ben and Jerry and throw a pity party on your couch. There’s nothing better than ice cream when you’re feeling down.
