Varsity Boys Water Polo Team Enjoys Successful Year
by Alan Lee
Congratulations to the guy’s varsity water polo for a great season. They trained hard and played well throughout their whole season. The water polo team this year had an overall record of 13-14. The matches were fought long and hard; Matt Smith led the team in goals. Smith is a senior at Valley Christian and is a great team player, and made it to the All-League first team, an outstanding accomplishment. With Smith scoring and Jonathan Langdon at goalie, they had a perfect balance. Langdon made it to the All-League second team. Both were invited to the Senior All-Star game because of their great performances. The team this year has included a variety of both upper and younger classmates. Shayne Fleming is only a freshman, yet he has impacted the team tremendously with his skill and love for water polo.
The team made Valley Christian history with a win in the first round of CCS, and a trip to the semi-finals, something that had never been done before. The team had expected to just qualify and this goal was blown out of the water with their advancement through the tournament. With this great season in mind they are dedicated to training harder to succeed next season.
