Varsity Girls Basketball Team Fighting For Every Inch In WCAL

by CJ Wrye and Liz Fleming

The girls varsity basketball team has enjoyed a challenging, yet successful season this year. The team features a lot of underclass talent, but has benefited greatly from the experience of seniors Torey Walker and Vanessa Guerrero. While the season is coming to a close, that doesn’t stop the girls from playing their hardest and coming out victorious. Practices are getting tougher as the girls prepare for the competition in CCS. The team will enter into playoffs with an overall record of 15-8 and a league record of 5-6. In their first league game, the Warriors dominated Presentation, holding the Panthers to a score of 54-39. Despite losing two tough games to Sacred Heart Cathedral and Archbishop Mitty, the girls bounced back to defeat both Notre Dame and Sacred Heart Prep.

For many of the girls, this season has been their first experience at the varsity level. They have faced some intense competition playing in the West Catholic Athletic League, and have proven that despite being younger and smaller than some of their opponents, they play a fast, aggressive, and disciplined game. They continue to improve individually and collectively, and have high hopes for their upcoming playoff season.
