Warrior Watch: Azusa Pacific Soccer Standout: Brandon Stirm

by Ryan Eshoff

The Valley Christian boys soccer machine has churned out numerous college athletes over the past few years, one of whom is Brandon Stirm, now a junior at Azusa Pacific University. A member of the VC class of 2004, Stirm helped lead the Warriors to an 18-3-5 record in his final season and a trip to the CCS quarterfinals, earning a 2nd Team All-WCAL spot in the process. As a high school junior, Stirm was a crucial part of the Warrior team that finished 17-6-4 and made a run to the CCS semis, and was named to the All-WCAL Honorable Mention team.

Stirm did not miss a beat in his first collegiate season at Azusa Pacific. Starting all but three of the Cougars’ games at midfield, Stirm contributed 7 goals, 4 of them being game-winners, as well as 10 assists. The conference rewarded his stellar play with a spot on the All-GSAC 1st team, one of only two freshmen to receive that honor.

This year, Stirm’s role is magnified as an experienced upperclassmen. His ability to read and understand the game and take advantage of one-on-one situations is what makes him so versatile, according to the Azusa Pacific Athletics scouting report.
